2003 – 2004 Activities 

1.                 The XXXVI Annual Meetings of the Society were held during 5-6 November 2004 at Mysore and were jointly organized by the University of Mysore, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) and Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysore.  The inaugural session and all scientific sessions were held at CFTRI while the concluding session was conducted at University of Mysore, Mysore. About 1500 delegates and invitees attended the meeting.   

2.                 Prof. Mark L. Wahlqvist, President, IUNS and Director, Asia Pacific Health and Nutrition Centre, Monash Asia Institute, Monash University, Australia inaugurated the annual meetings of the Society.  Dr. V. Prakash, Director, CFTRI delivered the keynote address.  Dr. Kamala Krishnaswamy, President of the Society presided over the function.  

3.                 Two symposia on “Critical determinants of pregnancy outcome” and “Bridging the nutrition gap through value addition” were organised during the meetings.  

4.                 Prof. Mark L. Wahlqvist, President, IUNS and Director, Asia Pacific Health and Nutrition Centre, Monash Asia Institute, Monash University, Australia regarded as Australia’s most eminent nutritionist delivered the twentyeighth Gopalan Oration on “The New Nutrition Science: Solutions for Development”.   

5.                Dr. Kamala Krishnaswamy, Former Director, NIN, ICMR Emeritus Medical Scientist, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad delivered the Sixteenth Srikantia Memorial Lecture on “Turmeric – the salt of the orient is the spice of life”.  

6.                  A total of 12 papers (Community and Experimental Nutrition), were presented in the Awards Session.

 

FORTHCOMING XXXVII ANNUAL MEETING OF THE SOCIETY

The forthcoming XXXVII Annual Meetings of the Society are scheduled to be held during 18th and 19th November 2005 at National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad.

The theme of the conference and the 2 symposia for the conference are as follows:

Theme:  Good Technology – Better Delivery – Best Nutrition   

Symposiums

I.   Effective nutrition intervention strategies  - Role of the stake holders

II.  Biotechnology for better nutrition

Dr. Shanti Ghosh, Paediatric Nutritionist has kindly consented to deliver the XXIX Gopalan Oration for this year annual conference and Subhadra Seshadri, Retd. Prof. Dept. of Food & Nutrition, Faculty of Home Science, M.S. University of Bardoa has kindly consented to deliver the Srikantia Memorial Lecture for this years annual conference.
