The Swedish
National Committee for Nutritional Science is appointed by the Royal Swedish
Academy of Sciences and represents the Academy in the International Union of
Nutritional Sciences, IUNS. As contact person for IUNS matters is Professor
Nils-Georg Asp, Lund.
The main
responsibility of the committee is to promote research and teaching of
Nutritional Sciences by bringing related scientific fields into collaboration
and to offer expertise for the universities, the society and the academy.
During 2004 two
conferences have been arranged in collaboration with the Swedish Society of
Clinical Nutrition at the Swedish Society of Medicine, and SNF Swedish Nutrition
Foundation. The first conference on 10 March 2004 focussed on the importance of
meal patterns, and the second one on 10 November on scientific documentation of
popular diets. Papers and reports from these conferences are published in the
Scandinavian Journal of Nutrition.
In preparation
for the forthcoming 18th IUNS Conference of Nutrition, the committee
has promoted Nordic collaboration regarding IUNS council representation.
