One conference has been arranged in collaboration with SNF Swedish Nutrition Foundation and SWESPEN (Swedish Federation of Parenetral and Enteral Nutrition): 2 December 2009 During 2006 the Academy re-organised several of its national committees and decided to merge the National Committee of Nutritional Sciences with that of Food Science and Technology. The present Swedish National Committee for Nutrition and Food Sciences was constituted 29 August 2007. One priority issue within the Committee has been the public funding of research in nutrition and food sciences. In spite of proposals in several recent official reports during the past decade to increase public funding and define better the responsible bodies, the funding is still insufficient and major programmes are lacking. The Committee has brought this issue to the attention of the Government and the public before the proposition on research and innovation in the autumn 2008. The nutrition recommendations and their scientific basis have been the subject of much debate and controversies recently. In particular, low carbohydrate/high fat diets have gained much attention in media. To define the state-of-the-art of the scientific basis for recommendations regarding fat and carbohydrates, the Committee arranged, in collaboration with the Academy’s class for medical sciences, an interational symposium entitled “Fat and Carbohydrates in Obesity and Diabetes - Scientific Basis for Dietary Recommendations” on 20 November 2008. A follow-up symposium entitled Dietary fatty acids and health was arranged on 3 November 2009. DOWNLOAD THIS INFORMATION IN PDF FORMAT
